The mangaka puts a lot of effort into shade and light in Berserk. By that we get a very distinctive nights, sunshines and sunsets as well as dynamic shadows (however awkward it sounds) that no anime director can mime. It's simply sensational to look at all that and even be able to read the story of it... It is clear to me, that Miura-sensei is trying to end up with a sort of masterpiece in terms of manga. And you know what? He's pretty close to achieving this.
There are, however, some bad points too. The manga is not for everyone. I would strictly add parental advisory and 18+ to it. Nowhere else will you see so much nudity, sex and violence as in this manga. It's not a hentai-like nudity and sex though. Berserk shows a violent world with all its aspects, hence these parts were as relevant as any other to make the story as believable as possible.

The backgrounds are actually CGI, derived from actual photos. This is something Asano has been criticized for, but to me it does not really make a difference. Tools are just tools, and the result is incredibly stunning and adds to the series' mesh of realism and surrealism, so I have no complaints on that front.
In the end, what makes Punpun such a powerful, emotionally gripping story is that it is bursting with life from every pore. None of it feels trite or derivative, none of the characters fall into predictable molds or character archetypes, the story's events are hard to predict, and the themes of depression, isolation, despair, and nihilism are handled in a very mature, relatable fashion.
While the ambiguous moral standing of the characters and the series' emotionally oppressive tone means that it is not a work that can be enjoyed by everyone, it is still an extremely well-crafted manga that is worth a look. As someone who has struggled with clinical depression for years, I have never read something that portrayed the suffering of the human condition quite like Punpun does.

もしも漫画でなにが一番名作か選べと言われたら火の鳥だな。
特に未来編は、どんなホラー、サスペンス漫画よりも怖かった。
シェークスピアも驚く悲劇w

「宇宙」というものだよな。
突っ込んで言えば、『火の鳥』に通底しているのは日本古来の「無常観」というものだよ。
全てのものは必ず滅びるわけ。それがこの宇宙に存在するものの宿命なんだよ。
だから、なんだよな。滅びない「火の鳥」というものを創造し、これと関わることで無常というものを明らめているわけ。
古代日本で宝飾職人であった男が自分の欲望の末に両腕を斬り落とされる。もう職人としては終わるわけだ。しかし彼はサルタヒコとなり、新たな生を受けるよな。
無常というものに対して、人間がどう受け入れるべきなのかということがここにあるわけだよ。
この世の栄華、欲望ではないものが、無常を受け入れることで拓いて行くわけよ。
永遠の命を求める者は、全て滅びるじゃない。だからそうではないのだ、ということだよな。
もう一つの代表作である『ブラックジャック』は、一方の西洋思想というものを表現しているんだよ。人間の力で何でもしていこう、というな。しかしそこにも無常観が見え隠れしていることがわかるの。
何でも出来る天才外科医ブラックジャックが及ばないものがあるわけだよ。
『火の鳥』の場合は、未来にまで話が及ぶじゃない。でもそこでも同じことを繰り返すよな。だから人間存在の基底にあるものを描いた、ということなんだよ。
人間の進歩やなんかはどうでもいいんだ。人間存在には普遍的な重要なものがあるの。
それが無常観を受け入れることなんだよ。死すべきモータルな存在であるからこそ、人間なんだよな。
だからあの作品では、火の鳥を捕獲することに失敗した者達のその後の運命にこそ、その答えが表されている、ということだ。
